Getting Started
So, you've seen people skating or longboarding around and decided you want to try it out for yourself. The good thing is that it's very easy to start skating! The bad thing is nobody can learn how to skate in one day; it takes persistence and time. The most important thing to remember while skating is to have fun! Everyone starts out somewhere so never get discouraged by people doing crazy tricks. The best thing you can do is ask for help and most skaters are more than happy to help out someone who's just starting.
What you will need
- A skateboard, either buy a prebuilt or build your own
- Protective gear
- Skate tool, a cheap tool used to tighten or loosen the bolts on your board
- Flat hard surface to skate on (preferably outside)
Getting on the Board
- Go to the flat area you found
- Start by getting on the board and roll around
- Bend your knees to keep balance
- Figure out which way is easiest to ride for you
- Start learning how to push
How to push
- Push with your back foot
- Try to have a smooth motion while pushing; don't stomp your feet on the ground
- Keep practicing and you'll be riding like a pro in no time
